New Bookmarklet Feature
You know how sometimes you find stuff online that you want to share in your journal, but the effort involved, like opening a new tab or cutting and pasting, seems like too much of a hassle? LJ bookmarklet is a handy new application that lets you share web content in your journal without having to leave the site where you found it. All you have to do is add LJ bookmarklet to your Bookmarks list. When you find a link or article that you want to share, choose LJ bookmarklet and a pop-up update.bml form appears. The entry body will include the text or link that you want to share; you can add your own commentary or simply post the link. That's it. You can find the code for LJ bookmarklet here.
Profile Page Update
As you're all aware, we rolled out a redesign of the Profile page several weeks ago. We reviewed and considered all your comments and feedback about the page and made some changes. A new version of the Profile page goes live today. Check out
lj_design for the details.
Give More
If you've left gift shopping for your LJ friends to the last minute, we have the perfect way to Give More. For the month of December, any gift of Paid Account time gets an automatic userpic add-on. So, if you give a friend 12 months of Paid Account time, that friend is automatically upgraded to 100 userpics for those 12 months.
It's the season for giving, and the Give More offer applies only to gifts purchased for other users, not to paid time you purchase for yourself. Give More ends December 31 at 11:59 p.m. PST.
Holiday V-Gifts
Brighten up your Friends' holidays with some seasonal v-gifts from the Gift Shop.

LJ Research Report
We've always known that LiveJournal and its users are unique. Sometimes, however, it can be hard to explain what makes LJ different to people who don't already know and love the site as we do. We're happy to announce that we've been working with a researcher (LJ user
alice_marwick) to help us articulate the differences. She just completed her first report, "Discuss Amongst Yourselves," and we thought it was pretty interesting. We think you might find it interesting, too, so we wanted to share it with you before we show it to the rest of the world. You can download a PDF of the report on our corporate site. Alice is looking for feedback about the report, so when you're done reading, you can comment on it in her post on
lj_research.
New Paid Account Feature
If you have a Paid Account, you can now view your Friends Page by date. To do this, just append the date you want to see to the end of the Friends Page URL, like this: /friends/?date=YYYY-MM-DD. For more details, please see
paidmembers.
Happy Holidays!
This is our last
news post for the year. Before we close out 2008, we want to take a moment to recognize all the hard work and dedication of the LJ volunteers and staff who do so much to keep LiveJournal the awesome and unique place that it is. THANK YOU. We'll be back in the New Year with the State of the Goat. Until then, we wish you very happy and safe holidays!

The staff of the LJ U.S. office volunteering at Project Homeless Connect on December 3.
