Header Design Winner, ONTD!

After a healthy dose of LJ-drama, we're pleased to announce the winner of our third monthly header design contest. We've also cooked up some tasty, purplicious userheads on ohnotheydidnt. Speaking of which, Frank was delighted to hear about your cooking foibles last week, since it helped ease his seasonal affective disorder, brought on by anti-climactic TV season finales. To comfort Frank in his time of need, he's hoping you'll share your own tales of media woe. Tell him which former television series you miss most, and he'll bake you up a luscious cupcake to sweeten your day!

And the winner is ...

We're thrilled to announce the winner of the third LiveJournal header design contest! Over 7,400 of you helped choose the design by mitashade. Our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated in this contest. We'll be sending LiveJournal gift certificates to one and all on Tuesday, June 1st. You may now begin posting entries to remixed for the next contest. In response to your requests, we've posted official rules along with LiveJournal logos and menu templates to the LJ News Contests Profile page, which should be used in all future submissions. We'll accept entries until Monday, June 21st at 3PM, PDT. We thank you, again, for sharing your passion and talent with the global LiveJournal community!

Important stuff to know

  • Purple reign: We've got an exciting announcement for all of you Oh no they didn't fans! ONTD members can now dress up in stylin' purple userheads! frank couldn't wait to show his love! To get yours now, sign into LiveJournal, visit ohnotheydidnt, click Rules & Info on the upper right corner, and then click Switch to ONTD userhead on the upper left side of the profile page. Remember, you MUST be a member of ONTD to get a purple userhead, which will color you purple wherever you roam. If you go through a blue period, you can always repeat these steps to switch back anytime.
  • Traveling light: We've cut the number of default entries on journals and communities from 20 to 10 entries. We expect this to decrease load times and improve site performance. To review or update your entries setting, click here.

Visit a decade of LiveJournal Russia!

We're thrilled to see a growing number of our Russian friends reading the news and submitting pictures to lj_photophile. To celebrate the unique cultural heritage of LiveJournal, we're pleased to announce the publication of По живому. 1999-2009., which roughly translates into something like LJ-Uncut (*we have yet to get a translation that doesn't include dramatic physical gestures and arched eyebrows*). This anthology marks the first decade of LiveJournal in Russia. No matter what language(s) you speak, you'll enjoy a scenic journey through ten years of original photos, humor, artwork, comic strips, and more from our Russian friends. Congratulations to our team in Moscow on a book well done!

For our featured photo and more fun with Frank & Meme, we'll catch you under the cut! Read more...Collapse )

I miss the lawyers of The Practice. :( And what's worse the DVD's aren't available in my country (the Philippines).

Tell him which former television series you miss most,

That is the easiest, and most devastating, question ever. Lost. I don't know how I'll get through my life without it.

Although this is an emergency situation, they definitely need a second opinion! Page Dr. Sagittarius Tiger [who, in spite of her name, is a rock 'n roll housecat in her spare time], STAT! She is the best, and Alpha will be safe in her care. She is also on par with Dr. House in solving medical - and nefarious - mysteries.

Once this is taken care of, Frank and Meme will be able to relax...that is, if Stan can ever get past his dreams of that word that rhymes with flash (sssssssssssssss) with Frank, and leave him alone. Oh my!

Series I miss:

Sapphire and Steel. The ending that wasn't an ending but left you hanging (as well as Sapphire and Steel.) It was never resolved, and I doubt it ever will. :(

Quantum Leap. Another ending after the fact, written in -after- they'd aired what turned out to be the final episode.

Star Trek Enterprise. WTF. Holodeck and an overweight Riker. Enough said.

Sapphire and Steel. The ending that wasn't an ending but left you hanging (as well as Sapphire and Steel.) It was never resolved, and I doubt it ever will.

I've wanted them to come back for some years now. I think Sally Phillips and Chris Barrie would be perfect to play Sapphire and Steel 2010.

The show I miss most is probably Joan of Arcadia. It didn't get a very long run, and it isn't super popular, but it could have gone somewhere really beautiful if they'd just given it the chance.

They always seem to put my favorite shows (Firefly, JoA, Eli Stone, etc) on Friday nights and then cancel them when they don't draw much of an audience. There isn't that much of a Friday night audience to draw!

I will never ever ever forgive FOX for being a cavernous vagina and canceling Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles. Also the cancellation of Flashforward kind of pissed me off. Stupid western television and its terrible audience of short attention spans and simple minds. :|

So that change was on purpose? No, do not mess with the setting on my journal. I like having 25 show on my main page and 25 on my friends page. Now I know that this was a site wide thing I will go and fix all my other journals and communites to this as well. Screw your stupid 10 posts only. When I fixed my journal it also removed all my css. Why would it do that? Fix that. Luckily I had a text back up and replaced everything to the way it was. I think LJ is the best journaling site on the whole net and you guys rarely screw up. But this was bad. Don't mess with my settings. I say everyone else put your journals back the way you had them.

Tell him which former television series you miss most

Absolutely, a zany Scottish comedy sketch show from the late 80s.

Frank and Meme are now worried about leaving Alpha under Dr. Nan's care. Tell them what you think they should do, and they'll send you over a double hit of bubbly and roses.

Relax, let the medical professional do her stuff. If you could afford to transfer Alpha to a private hospital I might recommend that, but I'm not sure a $20 LJ voucher and a cupcake would go very far there...

I'm missing: Friends, Third Watch, and Roar just to name a few.

As for Frank and Meme, listen guys - you can't save the world. Go be alone together. Maybe spend a weekend at a spa or something.

I miss Numb3rs, as a friend of mine has informed me that it has recently been canceled. At least the brothers Eppes moving to other shows provides crossover potential. :D

I miss the site actually loading. I keep getting 'server not found' errors; when it does load, it takes forever and it doesn't load user pics. I don't care about Frank and Meme, whether the banners are too floral, or that you changed the default number of entries on a page view. I just want the pages to load.

May 31 2010, 09:39:21 UTC 2 years ago

So it's NOT just me after all. Sometimes I have to refresh about 5 times until it loads the page at all, and this doesn't happen on any other site beside LJ. It's really annoying.

I miss when LiveJournal didn't fuck around with itself on an average of once a month.

May 30 2010, 22:29:56 UTC 2 years ago

*Why*, if your office was moving this weekend, was there no heads up anywhere that I can see on LJ? Nothing here or on LJ maintenance, and status was not updated until midway through today, even though the issues with journals not loading has been going on since early yesterday.

This on top of arbitrarily changing the number of entries loading on people's journals.

After over ten years, it should not be so difficult to warn people AHEAD of time, rather than explaining AFTER.

I miss Angel and Firefly. I also miss Magnificent Seven, Outlaw Star, Gundam Wing, DBZ, and Naruto. They're not on anywhere! And Angek, Firefly, and Mag 7 in particular ended on either anti-climactic or tragic notes.

I think Frank and Meme should stay in the room. I wouldn't trust Dr. Nan anywhere near poor Alpha.
