Android App, Header design contest, Journal theme contest, Free vgift for Paid users

We've had a great week here at LiveJournal. After a long and dreary rainy season, Spring is finally playing peekaboo. The balmier days have left Frank clamoring for the great outdoors. He's itching for suggestions on recreational activities that don't require a whole lot of coordination or endurance. Give him some fresh ideas (a matching userpic is always welcome), and Frank'll send you a pair of anti-gravity boots to keep you walking on air (up through the first 10 pages of comments).

Introducing the Android App!

We're delighted to announce the new Android App for LiveJournal! We know a lot of you have been asking for this, and we're so thrilled to help you enjoy LiveJournal on the go! Once you download the app, you can:
  • Post entries to your journal and communities
  • Upload photos
  • Create and post polls
  • Edit your last journal entry
  • Compose and edit drafts
  • 
Manage your settings for mobile posting

Just a heads up: We'll be adding access to your Friends page in the next version. Have any comments or suggestions? We'd love to get your input. You can post your feedback to this post. And be sure to join [info]ljmobile for regular updates.

Header design contest


It's that time of the month again! After agonizing review, we narrowed the selection down to 15 finalists. We invite you to vote for the design you'd like to see on the top of LiveJournal during the month of May. We'll begin accepting entries for the next header design contest next week. All submissions that came in after the deadline will be automatically entered into the next contest. We thank you, again, for making LiveJournal your canvas!

Journal theme contest

You'll see both the free and the $0.99 gifts displayed until you've sent them to your friends. If you're not receiving vgifts (from friends and/or Frank), you may have disabled them. To enable vgifts, visit Edit profile (under Profile), scroll down to the bottom of the page, and check your settings. Make sure the box beside 'Disable sponsored only' is NOT checked! Frank, I suggest you take a drive (or have someone drive you) out to the countryside and see the all the Spring flowers in bloom! They are beautiful this time of year. I especially like the poppy fields near Lancaster/Palmdale, but that might be a bit of a drive for you. Just don't go on a rainy day because the poppies don't open if it's raining.

Guys, what's up with the ownership polls?
It's really upsetting and all the support requests just say you're "working on it" and to check releases, but there hasn't been a releases post in like 3 months!

I'm very sorry about the problem with some Owner polls not closing. Developers are aware of this and are working on getting it fixed. If you have a community you maintain where an Owner poll hasn't closed properly, you can open a support request and we'll be able to look at it and see if it's one we can manually close for you or not.

Screened comments question?

I got around them when it came to Tinypic, but not when it comes to linking other sites. Is there any way to avoid this because it's becoming extremely annoying with so many of my comments being screened. :|

You can turn it off in the privacy settings by unchecking the box marked "Spam Protection Comments containing a link to a non-whitelisted domain will be marked as spam and moved to a special section."

If it's in a comm, just change the work as user and do the same.

Hiking definitely. You can stop and check out all the plants on your little hike, see if any of them might be tasty snacks :)
