Communities
You can now create communities.

A community is a shared journal that a bunch of people with related interests can post in. For instance, I created the seattle_party community. If you're in Seattle, go here and click the link to join it... that's where I'll be announcing LiveJournal parties in the future, since most the people in "news" aren't around Seattle, so they won't really care.

Please be aware that this community feature is really new and there is so far no documentation whatsoever, so have patience while all the related features are finished.

Also, if you create a cool community, reply here and let us all know about it.

Enjoy!

LiveJournal Anonymous is now a community; anyone is welcome to join. Type of community? Let's let time tell.

There is now a diplomacy community. We can use it to set up games, talk about rules, or anything else diplomacy related.

How fun! :)

i just converted the "everyone" lj into a community, but i don't think that it will change everyone all that much. one suggestion, maybe have a directory for communities, so you can find a community that interests you, because what is the point of having a community lj if no-one knows it exists?

yeah, that's coming soon.

like I said --- this is just barely done. there are tons of other things I want to do related to communities still.

one way to find communties is to look at interests: communities are separated away from regular users when the list is shown

I have turned user "livejournal" into a community with open membership and posting. Mark... if you wanna take over ownership of this, just let me know.

I have also created a community called "communities". heh. This community is meant to have other communities as its members so that livejournal users can have a easy place to go and get a quick reading of recent posts in various communities to see if they are interested in becomming a member. It also gives communities a place to post their existence when created. It is closed membership because I intend on verifying that the account is indeed a community before adding it.

Enjoy.

Change Community settings?
[info]gregw
2000-12-16 07:48 pm UTC (link)
This came up in the support area a couple of days ago - after you join a community, how do you unjoin it? I noticed, for instance, that I joined the lj_biz community, and it's not listed as someone who has me listed as a friend. Like the other person who has me listed, I can't change this.

How do you 'unjoin' a community?

on that particular community's "community info" page there is a link up at the top with that option... i think.

i have a question though... it seems that only "puplic" posts on community pages have pictures associated with it... protected ones do not have pictures next to the post...

I just created the LiveJournal Bisexual Community!

OK, I actually just created the account...we all know the community itself was already in existence!

I also created the polyamory community. Both accounts are open membership, select posting. This may change in the future, we'll just see how it goes.

...is it just me, or is there no way to post to a shared journal or community outside of the windows client? Ok, for fairness that should read as "a client other than the web or loserjabber. But the point remains.

Ok, so I was already corrected, and the newest loserjabber does support this. Still, it would be nice to do from the web.

I created the vegetarian community: http://www.livejournal.com/users/vegetarian

and converted the camgirls ring journal into a community: http://www.livejournal.com/users/camgirls

But now I have a problem. After you create it, you get a screen with three links... useful for managing your community. I didn't bookmark them, and now I can't find where they are!! I need to change some settings in one of my communities and I don't know how :(

Ok...these are my last 2 I swear! Based on a post in the everyone journal I went ahead and made an advice community (totally open)...it's for personal problems or anything outside the scope of support. Advice.

Also I made a community called comm_news based on an idea in the business emails. It's an informal, more personal approach to the official news journal, and membership is open to anyone. Posting is not, but I need "reporters" to help out with scouting out LiveJournal stuff. E-Mail me here: opiummmm@livejournal.com"

Oh and if you have any suggestions for the directory located on the /community.bml page, E-mail me as well, because I admin that page personally. Thanks everyone.
