You'll be like Google next, updating the goat for every different holiday.

(Commenting on the right post this time) As a permanent account holder, what happens if I buy a paid account for one of my friends? Is it possible for my one month of "buyer paid time" to be transferred to someone else as well, or should I do something silly like log in as one of my communities before buying accounts for my friends just so the paid time won't go to waste?

(Oh, and might as well post it here as well. Perm. accounts show up under the "not expiring for a while" list, but without the purchase links. I don't know if that's intentional or not.)

We can transfer whatever the entire balance of a permanent account's paid time might be to another account, including these one-month things. Just shoot an email to accounts@livejournal.com with the username you'd like it to go to.

That said, it'll save both you and me some time if you go the "something silly" route and log in as a non-perm journal to collect the free time :).

You should take communities out of the list.

No, I think it should be left alone... I have seen many people paid for an account for communities. That'll bring in more money for LJ!

If I buy "surprise delivery" time, my friends'll appear in the last group. Will they also see that, if they view this page? Or will they still see themselves as free users?

(Reply to this) (Thread)

I'm guessing they'll see themselves in the last group.

Good solution (actually doable easily) might be to not put a user's own journal in the list, even if he/she is self-friended?

Doesn't keep people from logging onto another account and seeing themselves in a different list..but eh?

1. I love that icon ;)

2. THis is a great idea. Of course, had it been around a week ago, some of those 2 month accounts i bought for th news post people might be more than that :) But still. Very cool. I appreciate it, and may be using it as a gift for some friends.

What a wonderful gift idea. And what a fun icon! ^__^

(Just a note, the first form that comes up won't let you pick any months, it's just blank. But if you follow the regular forms, that one will let you choose months).

Question
[info]dancinghrt
2002-12-12 07:24 am UTC (link)
I would like to buy an account as a gift but would like it to be a surprise till the Holidays. Is there any way to purchase an account for a person and then let them choose their username later? I would rather not make one up when I purchase it as I think it would be better they do that and don't want to ask them what to make it and ruin the surprise.

Re: Question

Two solutions I can see to that:

* Make up a username and make a rename token part of the present. :)

* Just write a gift coupon and don't pay until after Christmas. :)

Paying for an account anonymously ... that will still earn you the extra month, correct?

(Reply to this) (Thread)

[info]callmeselfish
2002-12-12 10:32 am UTC (link)
Strike that, and reformulate the question.

Is it possible to earn the free month if buying for several two month accounts? ie: I bought 6 of my friends 2 month accounts each. That would be a total of 12 months purchased, only individually, instead of in one lump. And I could spread the holiday cheer to more friends, instead of only one or two select people. Or is it only the 6/12 month lump purchases that count?

I give anonymously, so can the bonus month also be given to the recipient?

[info]balthcat

Does the recipient get a notice of the fact they just got paid for?
I didn't do surprise delivery, so it happened right now...

I'm claiming responsability ANYWAY... but I was just curious.

ps: This is a really neat idea.
pps: Did you thnk of upping the incentive next time, to give people 2months for 12months, I mean. I'm sure a few people have clued in to get 2x6mo that if they want to give a 12mo gift. (Actually, I'm not sure how that would benefit, with the savings in getting more months at a time. And I'm too lazy to look... for all I know, it saves you $5 to buy 12months at a time, so you'd actually be losing a month... rambleramble)

ppps: Oh... I think the goat SHOULD be like Google.
