Edit Friends, Mobile interstitials, Terms of Service, Privacy Policy

This week, we'd like to announce important updates to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy along with some fun feature enhancements (more details below). While we review, we can't stop humming all those maniacally merry melodies we hear jingling in every coffee shop, department store, and post office. Forever a fool for romance, Frank has decided to record himself crooning a holiday tune for his honey. Tell him your favorite song of the season (a festive userpic is sure to delight), and he'll send you a jolly snowman to keep you company (up through the first 10 pages of comments).

Important stuff to know

  • Manage Friends page: We've improved both searching and pagination on the Manage Friends page:
    • When you search for Friends, the list will display only 50 Friends at a time;
    • The search feature now returns partial matches (i.e. a search for "fox" will return all usernames that contain "fox");
  • Crossposts to Facebook: The correct image will display on crossposts;
  • Interstitials: Mobile browsers will no longer run interstitial ads on LiveJournal.

Update to LiveJournal Terms of Service and Privacy Policy

We've recently updated our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy to ensure a better experience for all of our users. Here are the key policy updates:
  1. We no longer permit users under 13 years of age to sign up for LiveJournal, regardless of parental/guardian consent.
  2. We explain that LiveJournal falls under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act(DMCA) and is not liable for user-generated content.
  3. We offer more detailed guidelines on "offensive content."
  4. We clarify that all disputes and claims will be decided under U.S. Law.

For further information or to leave feedback, please check out this post in lj_policy.

Did you know ...?

We all love our privacy, but there are times when we actually want to be found on LiveJournal. If you'd like to help former classmates locate you on LiveJournal, you can select a specific userpic to display in the search results for each school you've attended (we recommend a photo that your classmates are likely to recognize). To add your schools and create designated school userpics, here's what you do:
  • Visit the Schools Directory, search for your school, and add it to your profile (if your school isn't there, use the Add School feature to request that your licensed and accredited school be added to our list);
  • Click the link to your school and copy the ID number, which you'll find at the end of the URL after sid=;
  • Visit your Manage Userpics page and add or click on the userpic you'd like to associate with the school;
  • Add the ID number of the school into the following text string: _schools#### (replace the # signs with the ID number) and paste it into the Keywords field;
  • If you want to use the same userpic for all the schools you've attended, you'll need to add separate keywords that include each school ID number, separated by commas.

For more information about schools, check out this FAQ. We'll be back next week with another fun tip!

For our featured photo and more fun with Frank and Meme, we'll catch you under the cut!

Photos of the week

Congrats to missravenz, who won our 48th lj_photophile poll! Click here to help choose the next photo of the week. Another round of praise to the stupendous shutter, who won our themed contest on the subject of Helpless with this photo. FYI: We pick entries for both polls based on a combination of comments, +1 ratings, and staff input. Winners receive 500 LJ tokens. We thank you for sharing your talent with the global LiveJournal community.

Frank and Meme's Excellent Adventure

We received two excellent entries for our monthly Frank and Meme fanfic contest. We'll continue to accept submissions in frankandmeme up through Monday, December 20th, at 4PM, PST. The winning author gets 1,000 LJ Tokens, and all other participating writers receive 500 LJ Tokens. On behalf of our swooning sweethearts, we thank you for keeping the drama alive!

Thanks, again, for joining us. We'll see you next week!
